Manchester United target Mario Gomez is close to signing for Besiktas having had a successful loan spell with the club. According to reports, Mario Gomez is one of Manchester United key targets for this summer. The former Bayern Munich player was linked with a move to Manchester United last summer and last winter but he instead went on loan to Besiktas from Fiorentina.

Having scored a total of 23 goals for Besiktas this seaosn, United were said to be prepared to take a gamble on him in the summer. But according to a quote attributed to Besiktas’ director, Metin Albayrak, the club has agreed personal terms with the player and they are also close to reaching an agreement with his parent club Fiorentina that will see the loan deal turned to a permanent one.

Metin Albayrak said: “We are going to hold talks with Mario before Euro 2016 and he will be a Besiktas player before the tournament.”

Reportedly earning £80,000 a week, Gomez wages is certainly not going to be a problem for Manchester United but his age is surely a problem. At 30, Gomez is not any younger and even when he was youngster, he was a very slow player and with age, he can only get slower.

With Cavani likely to be available this season and Higuain still yet to sign a new contract with Napoli, Manchester United have a strong chance of signing a truly world class striker. Someone who is certainly better than Gomez.
