With the Premier League virtually sewn up and a place in the last eight of the Champions League beckoning, Fergie wants his stars to keep their feet on the gas.

The Red Devils beat FA Cup rivals Reading 2-1 on Monday to earn a home quarter-final with Chelsea or Middlesbrough.

Fergie has not lifted the FA Cup since 2004.

And Monday’s man-of-the-match Nani said: “It is very important, the manager has told us that he wants to win the FA Cup and we are very focused on this competition.

“We prepared very hard for the Reading game, and we did well to win it.”

Nani stepped out of the Old Trafford shadows with a goal against Reading and an assist for Javier Hernandez’s clincher.

The Portuguese winger, 26, was offered to Zenit St Petersburg this season and has also been linked as part of a package for Porto’s Colombian winger James Rodriguez.

Nani added: “I have been injured for a long time and it is always difficult when you come back.

“But I’ve worked very hard and part of what I did on the pitch against Reading was because I’ve worked very hard.”

Nani’s close pal Anderson, 24, believes that despite struggling to hold down regular first-team places, the pair can be part of a group who could form the backbone of the team for the next few years.

He explained: “Everyone knows Nani’s quality can be high. He is one of the good players.

“Nani came into the match against Reading and won the game for us. That could be me, Nani, anyone.

“I have been here for a few years now and Manchester United have always had a big squad.

“There have always been young players, like me, Chicharito, Nani, Phil Jones, Danny Welbeck.

“These players could be playing for the next five or six years.”

Anderson believes he is getting back to his best after being plagued by knee and hamstring injuries for much of the past three years.

And he says he is determined to play his part as United bid to repeat their famous 1999 Treble.

The Red Devils are 12 points clear in the Premier League.

Plus, they are favourites to KO Real Madrid and reach the last eight of the Champions League after a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their second-round clash.

The Brazilian added: “It could happen. It happened one time and it could happen again.

“We have a good team, we have a good squad and if everyone remains focused and concentrated then we can win everything.

“And of course the FA Cup is important. Every competition is very important.

“Everyone has to be on top form — but we have lots of good players.

“It would be fantastic for me to say to my family and my kids that I won the FA Cup with Manchester United.”
