Daniel Agger’s agent has rubbished claims that the defender has handed in a transfer request at Liverpool.

Agger agent denies Liverpool transfer request rumour

The Danish centre half has been linked with a summer move away from Anfield, with Barcelona and Manchester City in the frame, and eyebrows were raised when Agger was left out of the Liverpool team for the Europa League clash with Gomel.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers claimed Agger’s omission was down to fitness issues, but that did nothing to dampen the talk. It had been suggested Agger had set about trying to force a move by handing in a transfer request, but his agent claims that is wide of the mark and that the defender is happy at Liverpool.

“Liverpool will have to answer to whether they have received any offers,” Per Steffensen told Politiken. “But the reports of Agger handing in a transfer request are purely nonsense. He is very happy at Liverpool.”

Steffensen, though, did cloud the issue by insisting there is nothing wrong with his client’s fitness.

“He is not injured in any way,” Steffensen said. “Only the club and the manager can answer to why he was not in the squad.”
