manchester united,

If reports coming from Portugal is anything to go by, Manchester United could in about two weeks from now announce their first summer signing and it will not be Renato Sanchez. Reports in the Portuguese medial claim the Red Devils are set to reach an agreement to sign £45 million rated Sporting Lisbon star Joao Mario who the club is said to have been scouting for more than six months.

The high rated midfielder has had a stellar season playing for Sporting this season and has been the subject of interest from both Manchester United and Chelsea. Reports claim Sporting who have a cordial relationship with United are ready to let the red devils sign the player but they want any deal done before the European Championship starts in June.

It is obvious Sporting want to give themselves a chance of signing a replacement for their want-away star and know their targets could become expensive if they have a good tournament at the Championship in France.

Should United be signing Joao Mario, it will be safe to conclude the club will not be signing Renato Sanches who has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. I simply can’t see why United will need both players especially considering the fact that United already have so many midfielders in their ranks.

Should either Renato Sanches or Joao Mario join the club, it will certainly be as a replacement for Michael Carrick who could be having his last season as a Manchester United player.
