Signed on from Everton in 2004 for around £25 million, Wayne Rooney has gone on to become the team’s captain while getting closer to breaking Manchester United all-time goal scoring record.

It’s been ten years since Wayne Rooney joined Manchester United and he has not failed to impress on the big stage.

Although there can be criticism about Wayne Rooney’s performances and commitment to the club, he is still arguably one of the best player in Manchester United and probably the best English player around now.

The recent captain role at both club and country clearly indicate how much the English talisman has grown in 10 years.

2009/2010 was the greatest season for Wayne Rooney in Manchester United in terms of goal returns.

The English man made his appearance against Fernabache of Turkey in the UEFA Champions League scoring a hat trick in the process.

He formed a good partnership with Ruud Van Nistelrooy and was a catalyst in ending Arsenal 49 matches unbeaten run in Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney also paired with Louis Saha in the United team for a while before the arrival of Carlos Tevez saw Manchester United claim the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League in 2008 against Chelsea in Moscow.

Manchester United featuring Wayne Rooney came close to defending their the European crown in 2009 but Barcelona was on hand to deny them with the scenario repeating itself two years later at Wembley.

Despite the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney was on hand to lift Manchester United as he was the team’s focal point in 2009/2010 season, a season which saw him score 34 goals and came close but piped to the Premier League golden boot by Chelsea’s Didier Drogba.

Since Wayne got injured in a champions league semi-final first leg match at the Allianz Arena, it’s not been the same story for the United striker.

Former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson played Wayne on a number of occasions in the midfield which may probably have affected the player’s ability to reach the peak as a striker.

It’s of no news that Wayne is a versatile player who can play in the 3 front positions, behind the striker and even from midfield.

This may later see him drop later in his career as a midfielder. Wayne’s passing ability, strength and hunger makes him an asset to the club.

Wayne Rooney has won everything to be won at the club level with Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson but will have to improve on recent display to help bring the team back to the top.

Wayne Rooney may be the captain but much is still expected of him upfront with Louis Van Gaal trying to get a perfect fit for his attacking players.

Rooney’s only goal of the season came in the 2-1 loss to Swansea and the striker together with the team are not looking sharp enough.

He would have loved to be celebrating this day with good Manchester United performance but the present predicament is definitely reminding Wayne that he’s got another stage of his career in Manchester United which will demand more from him especially now that he is the leader of the team.
